Finch: Tiny Finches

Four tiny orphaned hatchlings came in to us this week - they don't come much smaller than this! Baby birds, this young, are incredibly hard to

identify and even we have sometimes got it slightly wrong. However, you can tell these little ones are Finches from their specialised beaks.

At this age, they should really be with mum and need a lot of heat to keep them going. We hope that they will settle in well with us and will do our best to take over from mums vital role and make sure that they are able to be released.

OUTCOME:

These four were released from one of our aviaries after spending a long time in our care. Since they were so tiny when they came in, we worked really hard to make sure that when it came to weaning, we were able to get them back to being a wild animal and not reliant on our care. They did really well.
