Redwing: Helga

This little girl, Helga, was picked up in Burpham by some fantastic students! They managed to catch her and pop her into a box to keep her

safe until we arrived. She is a Redwing - which are part of the Thrush family.

Redwings come over from Scandinavia to avoid the harsh winter period, they usually arrive at the start of Autumn and stay until around March/April.

She was unable to fly and would not have survived if the students had left her. Redwings are very secretive and get stressed easily; we have tried to keep the human contact to an absolute minimum.

We worried there may have been a break in her wing  as she wasn't holding it correctly.  Our vets could feel a definite swelling due to bruising, but thankfully no break! She is healing well and she certainly seems much brighter in herself.

OUTCOME:

After a lot of TLC and rest Helga has finally been released! It was lovely to see her go!
