Tawny Owl: Lucifer

Lucifer was found by the side of the road after he had a collision with a rather large truck. We cannot believe that he survived this ordeal,

as we see many other birds in road traffic accidents that do not come out looking as good! He has a lot of bruising and some bumps on his head but no broken bones at all! He needs a lot of time to rest without having to fly to be able to hunt for food. We have given him some painkillers to make sure he is not in any discomfort during his stay here.

Lucifer is now fully fit and flying well. We let him out of his small indoor run, into a larger outdoor aviary so we could see if he had improved. He took to it straight away and flew immediately. He stumbled slightly at first - which is to be expected - but after a couple of short bursts of flight he picked it up pretty quickly.

Don't be fooled by his typical Tawny relaxed pose. They may look like they are sleeping or not very well, but as soon as you get near them, they will jump into action to protect themselves, and generally, Tawny Owls come out on top!

Lucifer is now on his way back to Hindhead. The lovely Claire returned this feisty tawny to back his home. Good luck Lucifer!
