Can you help us by volunteering your time...

We are a small charity run totally by volunteers. Our volunteers are dedicated and come from a wide range of backgrounds. We are always looking for more volunteers to carry out some of the roles below. Volunteers are an essential part of Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue. Without them, we couldn't continue to help sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. Most volunteers work within the animal care team that operates seven days a week - 365 days a year. The main duties are cleaning and feeding and the daily care of our patients. We are always looking for volunteers to cover many roles.

Please click on the role in the drop down menu above that you are interested in any of the following roles and fill out the form provided:

The cleaning and feeding of wildlife on site. This role is based in the rescue itself. It involves cleaning the indoor & outdoor runs, feeding the animals currently in our care and also general rescue maintenance including restock, laundry etc. The shift is based on a set morning per week from 8am - 11am.

This role is perfect for anyone who is confident with public speaking. It involves attending schools, brownies, WI groups and other organisations to carry out a talk on behalf of Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue. The talk covers the work we do and some of the animals we deal with, but focuses on how people can help wildlife in their gardens and local areas.

We need lovely people to answer the phone during our busy day, shifts are 4 hourly, training and coffee given lovingly!  This role is based in the office here. It involves manning our phones which can include queries such as - wildlife needing help, volunteering, work experience & general wildlife queries. It also involves signing in animals when they arrive and admin tasks such as emails, inputting data, social media & sales.

This role is not an office based role and is far more flexible with hours. To become an wildlife collector you will need to attend our collection course. The role involves collecting wildlife from a specified location and bringing that animal into the rescue.

As a charity, we are continually fundraising to keep up with our running costs and to enable us to improve our service. We are always looking for new ways to generate funds. We attend many events and always need help. This would be a home-based role with office support, attending events mainly at weekends and holidays. If you are organised and enjoy meeting people please get in touch. This role can involve a wide variety of things and can be carried out within the office or at home. Fundraising on behalf of Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue could be promoting our membership, adoption & donation options at events, online or in the community, organising fundraising events or carrying out a sponsored task.

This role is needed during baby season where we are inundated with orphans needing round the clock care. It involves taking on a feeding routine with an orphaned animal throughout the day & night. Rearing experience preferred.

We use a soft release procedure to release the majority of hedgehogs that come into us. We are always looking for suitable release sites for hedgehogs. To be able to go ahead with hedgehog release and building a run, you will need to attend our Release Course - this will cover all the run specifications that we require, soft release procedure and any questions you may have.

This role will be centred around admin tasks, so some computer knowledge would be preferred. It can involve posting on social media, replying to messages/comments on social media, proof reading, website management etc.
